Sports Social Worker

QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications of the Master Social Worker/Psychotherapist are as follows:

Educational Requirements and Professional Certifications

• post graduate degree in social work/mental health counselling from a recognized university;
• member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Services Workers/College of Psychotherapist of Ontario; and
• proof of professional liability insurance.

Experience, Knowledge and Skill Requirements

• three (3) years counselling/therapy experience preferably in a community setting;
• demonstrated proficiencies in assessment, psychotherapy and psychological counselling techniques for working with individuals, couples and families;
• experience in program development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation;
• knowledge and proficiency in current, evidence-informed methods and practices of primary care delivery, with an emphasis on health promotion and risk reduction;
• proven leadership, organization, research, evaluation, time management, communication and interpersonal skills;
• proficiency in the use of the computer hardware and software, including Microsoft Word and Excel;
• prior experience and knowledge of competitive sports associations;
• desire and ability to update knowledge and skills through various means including technology-based opportunities, courses, workshops and conferences;
• multi-tasking skills related to the delivery of efficient primary care including the ability to share information and teach while treating a client;
• excellent verbal and written communication skills; and
• exhibit an ability to be open and non-judgmental.

Duties and Responsibilities

• develop and implement individualized primary care plans of a client/family/couple based on evidence-informed practices in collaboration with other interdisciplinary health professionals;
• use clinical discretion to encourage client participation in groups;
• facilitate coordinated access to services in areas such as assistance with daily living, crisis intervention, treatment, health promotion and prevention;
• facilitate linkages with appropriate services, supports, and community resources;
• evaluate achievement of client goals;
• promote effective problem-solving, decision-making, communication, interpersonal skills, goal setting and time management with client/families/couples;
• participate in the development, planning and evaluation of primary care provided by Athletes United;
• promote awareness of Athletes United services and programs;
• maintain and develop professional competence through ongoing professional development through the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers/College of Psychotherapist of Ontario;
• stay current and aware of opportunities to implement new, evidence-informed methods of client assessment, treatment and programming;
