Holden Garlent – Saskatchewan Rush Lacrosse

Sports Mentor
“Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.” – Vince Lombardi

My name is Holden Garlent, I am a professional lacrosse player for the Saskatchewan Rush and a sports enthusiast. Growing up I played a handful of different sports, ultimately pursuing lacrosse and hockey. I started my lacrosse and hockey career playing in the St. Catharines Athletics and Falcons organizations. I played 4.5 years of Jr. A lacrosse for St. Catharines Athletics before being traded to the Six Nations Arrows to finish out my junior career, on route to winning the Minto Cup. While playing Jr. A lacrosse in the summer I was also pursuing a dream in hockey during the winters, playing Jr. B in the GOJHL for the Fort Erie Meteors. As my junior career was coming to an end for both sports I was fortunate enough to get multiple NCAA Division 1 offers in lacrosse and a few D2/D3 hockey offers. Being stuck at this crossroad in my life, not sure what direction to go in I decided to take a year off and go to Niagara College to start my academic career.

After a year at Niagara College, there was one school that stuck around with me through this decision and kept their scholarship offer: Canisius College (now Canisius University). I went on a visit and fell in love with everything, the staff, players, school, facilities, it was a dream come true. I enrolled in a Sports Management Major and finished my collegiate career and academics at Canisius College, becoming an ALL-MAAC First Team selection 2 out of 3 years, and winning the MAAC conference championship during the 2017-2018 season. Following my collegiate career I put my name in the 2019 National Lacrosse League (NLL) draft. Fortunately I was drafted 4th overall in the 1st round to the Saskatchewan Rush. I have spent the last 5 years playing professionally within their organization. My journey in athletics has been a crazy one, but I have no plans of slowing down anytime soon!
