To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift – Steve Prefontaine

I competed in many sports in high school, but my passions were hockey and track and field. I was a goaltender in hockey and a sprinter in track and field. My AA hockey team received a silver medal in 2015 at the city championships and I also received the award for Most Improved Player. I won my first Provincial gold medals in the 60m and 200m in March 2015, in grade 11. I then went on to win many more Provincial medals in the 60m, 100m and 200m while in high school. I was then recruited by the University of Manitoba and received an Athletic Scholarship. I played my last year of competitive hockey at Kelvin High School during my graduating year (2016-2017). In the summer of 2017, I won a bronze medal in the 100m at the Canadian Francophone Games, my first national medal.

As a Bison, I was part of a historically successful Men’s Track and Field team. From 2017 to 2020, our team won multiple silver medals at the CanWest Championships. In 2022 and 2023, we won back-to-back CanWest Championships. We also won two bronze medals at the USports Championships in 2019 and 2023. I won one bronze medal and four silver medals on the 4x200m relay team at the CanWest Championships while setting multiple school records in this discipline. I reached 6 CanWest finals in my individual events in the 60m and 300m, my best result placing 5th in the 60m in 2022. I also have the 3rd fastest indoor 200m time in school history and only a few hundredths back of the school record. My proudest achievement was being named team Captain in 2019. I served in this position until I completed my years of eligibility in 2023. Since I was 16, I competed for 7 provincial teams in the summers. While competing for Team Manitoba, I won multiple medals in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m. Most notably, I was on the 4x100m team that won bronze at the 2022 Canada Summer Games in Niagara. I was named Captain of the 2019 Western Canada Games and 2022 Canada Summer Games provincial teams. Last summer, I was drafted into a semi-professional track and field league called the Canadian Track and Field League to compete in the 200m for the Arctics. Through the regular season, I was tied for first place. Unfortunately, an injury prevented me from competing in the final. Still, due to a strong regular season, I had accumulated enough points to finish in 3rd place and receive the bronze medal.

I have now transitioned to the sport of Skeleton, where I hold the National Push record at the Calgary IceHouse. I am a national team athlete in this sport, and I aim to train and compete to represent Canada at the 2026 and 2030 Winter Olympics.

I attended the University of Manitoba, taking a full course load from September 2017 to April 2023. I was accepted directly to the Faculty of Sciences in 2017 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2021. I continued to attend university courses in 2022 and 2023 to continue competing for the University of Manitoba and to finish my years of USports eligibility. In the spring of 2023, I was accepted into the Master of Physiotherapy program at the University of Manitoba. This was a goal of mine from the time I began university in 2017. However, I was fortunate to be given an opportunity in my athletic career that I could not pass up in the sport of Skeleton. Therefore, I gave up my seat in the program to pursue my athletic dream of becoming an Olympian. My goal is to one day return to university and become a physiotherapist once I retire from professional sports. At University, I received the Academic All-Canadian award for 5 consecutive years from 2018-2023. This award is given to student-athletes who maintain an average of 80% or higher while on a varsity university sports team and taking a full course load. Finally, I was involved in the University of Manitoba Athlete’s Council from 2019 to 2023. I first served as a Team Representative for Track and Field in 2019, and from 2020 to 2023, I served as the Executive of the Bison’s Against Bullying program.

I am a National Certified Lifeguard, National Certified Water Safety Instructor, and a NCCP Certified Coach in Track and Field.
